The road not taken

Robert Frost uses the idea of a cross road to show the difficult decision humans have to decide. For example, Frost describes ‘Two roads diverged in a yellow wood’ to show the indecision. The two roads show the walker has a desision to take one road which could be inccoret but the other one could be inccoret so they are equal routes. But the walker sees that one road has be walked down by many people and the other has been not so will he follow the path of everyone or will he be different and go his own way. This whole passage is a extended metaphor describing the two roads one everyone hast one down or the one nobody has gone down.

Robert Frost used the picture of an undergrowth place to describe the road no one has taken. For example, Frost describes ‘And looked down one as far as I could/To where it bent in the undergrowth’ the show the path that no one has taken. The bent in the overgrowth shows that the path has been left alone so it has not been cut to clear the path of others because people will not go down that path but will follow others and go down their path. This is an extended metaphor because it symbolise that people are always following other people’s paths (of life) and this walker may be like other or he will decide to take his own path(of life)

Robert Frost uses the image of paths to symbolise people taking the same life as others. For example ‘Then took the other’ to show that people take the same path as other and will not decide to take their own path. The path that everyone has taken shows that he has taken the path of everyone and he doesn’t decide for himself and take the other path. The idea of the path shows that everyone takes the same path and doesn’t decide for themself
